A Great Garden Is About The Right Plant In The Right Spot

I often say a great garden is about the right plant in the right spot. Nowhere is this more true than in my own garden.

My house faces east and I put some favourite long blooming perennials flanking each side of my front steps.  Three years later, it was clear that the right side (south) gets a bit more sun than the plants on the left side (north)… maybe 1 hour to 2 hours more if that.

Look at the difference:

Even my ornamental sedge grass wasn’t happy.  So much for symmetry in the garden!

I hope this helps illustrate that part sun and shade are 2 different things when it comes to plants!
